Adobe's Photoshop, Express and Firefly tools now work inside Gemini, but only on personal Google accounts

Adobe's Photoshop, Lightroom, Express and Firefly tools now run inside Gemini. What it can do for your posts and product photos, and who can't use it yet.

Adobe has put tools from Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Express and Firefly inside Google Gemini. Adobe announced on 24 September 2026 that “Adobe in Gemini is rolling out globally beginning today and is available across all Gemini plans”. Instead of opening a separate app, you describe what you want in a Gemini chat and, in Adobe’s words, “Adobe orchestrates the right tools and steps to get you there”.

For a business that makes its own social posts, flyers and product photos, that could mean less time moving files between apps. The catch: Google lists the Adobe connection as available on personal Google Accounts only. If your team uses Gemini through a Google Workspace business account, it won’t be there.

What it can do

Adobe’s announcement gives three examples, all aimed at the kind of work small businesses do themselves:

  • Product photos: upload your photos and describe the look you want. Adobe says it can “optimize lighting and color, crop images consistently and prepare a polished collection” for a storefront, website or marketing material.
  • Social versions of one design: ask for “social-ready versions while preserving your branding and messaging”.
  • Templates: describe your campaign, audience and style, and Adobe “will surface Express designs that best match your needs”, which you can then ask it to change (text, images, colours).

Adobe’s product page for Adobe for Google Gemini also lists batch photo editing and retouching, generating images and mockups, resizing, and Lightroom presets. It adds that the connector “does not include every feature from each Adobe app”. Adobe describes this launch as “the first step” and says more tools are coming.

How to switch it on

According to Adobe, in Gemini you open Settings, choose Personal Intelligence, then Connected Apps, find Adobe and turn it on. You can then call it by typing “@Adobe” in a prompt. It works in Gemini on the web and in the Gemini mobile app.

Who can use it, and where

  • Account type: Google’s requirements table for Gemini connected apps lists Adobe as “Personal Google Account only”, for users “18 or over”, in “English only”. Google’s page on connected apps for work or school accounts lists Google’s own apps, including Classroom, plus GitHub, and does not list Adobe.
  • Gemini plan: Adobe says it is available on all Gemini plans. Google’s requirements table does not list a subscription requirement for Adobe.
  • Australia: we couldn’t find a page that names Australia. Adobe’s help page says it “is available globally, except in regions restricted by Adobe trade compliance”. Google says it is available in all countries and territories where both Gemini and the third-party app are supported. On our reading, neither page excludes Australia, but Adobe’s announcement also says “availability varies”, so check it appears in your own Gemini settings.
  • Adobe account: Adobe’s pages don’t fully agree. The announcement and help page say you sign in with an Adobe account or create a free one. The product page says “Many capabilities are available without signing in” and that signing in “unlocks additional features, including generative AI workflows” and saving to Creative Cloud. It also says “Some capabilities may require an eligible Adobe plan”.
  • Cost and limits: Adobe’s Gemini pages don’t list prices or usage limits for the connector.

The Claude side

In the same announcement, Adobe added Acrobat tools to its Adobe for Claude plugin for the first time. Adobe says the plugin now has more than 80 tools across Acrobat, Express, Photoshop, Lightroom and other apps. That includes organising and redacting PDFs and editing Express designs layer by layer. You can use it as a guest or sign in to Adobe for “higher usage limits, additional tools and continuity across sessions”.

What to check before your team uses it

Which account people are using. Because Adobe in Gemini only works on personal Google Accounts, staff may be tempted to do business work in a personal account. Decide whether that’s acceptable. On our reading, work done there sits outside your Workspace admin controls.

Whose rules apply to your files. Google’s help says that when you use Gemini with third-party services, “they process your data according to their own privacy policies”. So Adobe’s privacy policy, not only Google’s, covers what you upload.

Customer photos and personal information. The OAIC’s guidance on commercially available AI products says that “as a matter of best practice, the OAIC recommends that organisations do not enter personal information, and particularly sensitive information, into publicly available generative AI tools”. The same guidance says images where a person is identifiable are personal information, so photos of customers, patients or staff can count. Our explainer on what the Privacy Act changes mean for small businesses covers which obligations apply to you.

Rights in generated images. Adobe’s Firefly page says “Adobe Firefly models are commercially safe” and are trained on licensed Adobe Stock and public-domain content. The same page says Firefly also gives access to models from Google, OpenAI and others. Adobe’s Gemini pages don’t say which model produces generated images in Gemini, and they don’t address commercial use. If a generated image will appear in paid advertising or on packaging, check Adobe’s terms first.

Brand consistency. Adobe says the tools preserve your branding, but that depends on the instructions and files you give them. Keep logo files, colour codes and fonts in one place and check every result. See our guide to writing a better AI brief.

Checklist

  • Check whether the people who make your marketing use a personal Google Account or a Workspace account for Gemini.
  • Decide whether business content may be made in personal accounts, and who owns the Adobe account used.
  • Look for Adobe under Settings, Personal Intelligence, Connected Apps before planning around it.
  • Don’t upload photos where a customer, patient or staff member can be identified until you’ve checked the OAIC’s guidance on AI products.
  • Before a generated image goes into paid ads or on packaging, check Adobe’s terms, because Adobe’s Gemini pages don’t say which model made it.
  • Have someone check every result against your brand files before publishing.
